ABOUT

Gopal Yonjan is a Nepali singer, songwriter, composer and music arranger who is mostly known for his patriotic Nepali songs. He was one of the most prominent Nepali music composers in the history of Nepali music. He has over 2000 musical compositions. The songs that he created are everlasting. He was honored by Gorkha Dakshin Bahu for his contribution in Nepali music.

EARLY YEARS

Gopal Yonjan was born in Darjeeling, India. He completed his school and high school from Darjeeling. His mother wanted him to become a doctor but his interest in music took over and got involved in Darjeeling Art Academy. He became friends with Narayan Gopal who was in Darjeeling for a musical tour. Later Yonjan came to Nepal to do his bachelor's degree In Nepali music so he joined Tribhuwan University. He used to teach in St. Mary's and St. Xavier's school where he met his future wife.

MUSICAL CAREER

Gopal Yonjan started his musical career as a flute player. He wrote his first lyrics in 1963. He won the best musician award in modern music competition for his song "Galti Hajar Hunchan" organized by Radio Nepal in 1968 AD. He had created music in various genres like folk, patriotic, modern, bhajan, fusion, movie, children, sports, romantic, ode to women and womanhood. He also wrote two books named Sangitanjali and Geetanjali.

Gopal Yonjan musically associated with Narayan Gopal and Aruna Lama. The songs he created continue to be admired and popular in Nepal are "Timro Jasto Mutu Mero Pani", "Chinari Hamro Dherai Purano", "Lau Suna Ma Bhanchu Mero Ramkahani", "Galti Hajar Hunchan" etc.
