Deep Shrestha is a renowned Nepali singer and musician and one of the most popular and successful artist of the Nepali music industry. He began his professional musical career in the late 1960s which is also known as the golden era of Nepali modern music. He admires international artists such as The Beatles, The Shadows and the American Latin rock band Santana. He is also a sports person and loves playing badminton.
Early Years
Deep Shrestha was born and brought up in Dharan, Nepal in 1950 to Ustad Jaya Narayan Shrestha and Indira Shrestha where he studied Bio-Science till intermediate level. He was raised in a musical family as his father was an Ustad and played violin ad flute. He met his wife Sophia, who is also a singer, in Darjeeling while touring. They sing duets sometimes and practice music together.
Musical Career
As Deep Shrestha was familiar with music since his childhood days, he composed his first song "Ma Pattharko Deuta Hoina" at the young age of 14. His musical journey began when he participated in the Nationwide Music Competition and won the first prize in 2028 BS at Radio Nepal, where he started singing for Rs.10 per song. He has sung hundreds of songs and released a dozen of albums. Deep Shrestha has won many awards over the years including the Gorkha Dakshin Bahu. The award he got from radio Nepal in 1972 for the song "Biduwa Ko Sindoor Ko Rahar" is what he cherishes the most. His most popular songs are "Ma Ta Dur Dekhi Aye", "Badal Haru Ho", "Ma Pattharko Deuta Hoina", "Hu Yatri Euta", "Kati Kamjor" and "Mero Aakhama Har Din" etc.
