Bhakta Raj Acharya is a legendary Nepali singer and music composer entitled as "Bhajan Shiromani". He is specialized in Bhajans and one of the most honored musicians as he is a musical genius. He was honored with prestigious 'Swami Narayanacharya Shruti Samman - 2067'. Bhakta Raj Acharya is a living legend whose songs are evergreen and very close to our hearts.
Early Years
Bhakta Raj Acharya was born in Dhankuta in 1942 to Balabhadra Acharya and Renuka Acharya. He lost his father when he was still an infant so his mother left the village and went to live in Sikkim, India. Being an only son his childhood was not easy as he had to take many family responsibilities. As he was interested in music from the childhood he participated in his school programs and other musical programs. Even though he was still struggling he pursued his musical career showing where his true passion rested and took formal music training in Ilahabad, India.
Musical Career
In 2030 BS, Bhakta Raj Acharya came to Kathmandu to participate in National Song Competition winning the gold medal for the patriotic song "Hosiyar Yasbakhat Samayako Mukhlai China". Not only him but legendary artist Amber Gurung also won gold medal as a lyricist and composer for the same song. This was Bhakta Raj's first song. He was appointed in Radio Nepal where he recorded his first ever song "Malai Jiwan Chahincha". In his 16 years musical career he recorded more than 450 songs and most of the song was composed by himself. All of his songs are evergreen and his most popular songs are Mutu Jalirahecha, Jaha Chan Buddha Ka Aakha, Hajar Sapana, Jiwan Bhanu Ta and many more. Unfortunately his music career was short lived as he was diagnosed with tongue cancer. "Kohi Nagaros Prem Amar" was his last song. In 2011, director Prashant Rasaily directed a movie 'Acharya' based on Bhakta Raj Acharya's life where his elder son Satya Raj Acharya portrayed his character. The movie got good response from the critics. Now his two sons Satya Raj Acharya and Swaroop Raj Acharya have followed their father's footstep as they have established themselves as promising singers of Nepal.
